An Outdoor Space To Relax
With a growing family and a new addition to the home, our client was looking for an outdoor space to relax. We landscaped the newly-expanded front yard and were given a lot of freedom in the design to do something unique, but it had to include a bluestone patio for relaxing.
Before: Front Yard Landscaping
We expanded the overall design to include an addition onto the home, which you can see on the right side of the picture. Per the client’s request, we made the front door and walkway the focal point of the design.
After: Front Yard Landscaping
The planting bed design worked out perfectly to create an inviting walkway leading to the front door. The pavers and stone steps add a nice contrast to the colorful plants. In addition, we added a curved paver walking path to connect the garage to the front door. This front yard serves as a perfect example of how landscape lighting can elevate your home at night.
Before: Bluestone Patio & Outdoor Kitchen Area
Toward the back of this photo, you can see an existing deck that we integrated into the new design. We added extra support to the deck as well as a wider set of stairs. In the patio area, we removed 18-24″ of the grade to better line up the pavers with the landscaping. We added a retaining wall to hold back the grade and as an added benefit it defined the seating area.
After: Bluestone Patio & Outdoor Kitchen Area
The addition of the wider steps on the deck made the patio area feel like a continuation of the new patio and dining space. We installed a rough sawn cedar pergola in the patio space. The wood adds a nice contrast against the stone and retaining wall. Next to the patio space, there is fully stocked outdoor kitchen that sits between the pergola and deck.
